This application has been developed by an experienced team of paediatricians and neonatologists to provide the user with the advice and tools they will need to manage the most commonly encountered paediatric problems on the postnatal ward.

When a doctor embarks on their first paediatrics rotation covering the postnatal wards they often find that their training and previous experience leave them ill prepared for the task at hand. This is because they will not have encountered the majority of the problems they will be expected to deal with and those that they have dealt with before in adults are often managed very differently in babies. This problem is further confounded by the lack of available resources by which the doctor can increase their knowledge and traditionally this has to be done by on the job learning.

This application attempts to address the above problem by providing the user with three useful resources combined into a single application. The e-book offers practical “hands on” advice on how to deal with the most commonly encountered paediatric problems on the postnatal ward. The advice offered represents the results of a thorough literature review combined with the pooled experience of the authors. At the end of each topic there are a number of links to sources of further reading.

The audiovisual section contains a number of useful videos and audio presentations by experienced neonatologists on important topics such as how to carry out a newborn check, jaundice and hypoglycaemia.

Finally, the calculators section contains a number of useful tools that will help you workout an infants feeding requirements or calculate their need for phototherapy.

Pros and cons of Paediatric Postnatal Problems app for iPhone and iPad

Paediatric Postnatal Problems app good for

This is a well thought out and useful application. The topics in the ebook are comprehensive and I particularly like the links to the photo galley and other internationally recognised guidelines. The video demonstration of how to do a baby check is great and I have picked up some useful tips. While all the calculators come in handy, the phototherapy calculator is particularly good and makes following the AAP guidelines easy.
A great combination of content within a single application. I liked how the text was supported with pictures, video and audio presentations, there where links to related material on the internet (the internal browse was great idea ... I did not have to leave the application to view the external link). The calculators will be useful and are easy to use. Overall a top class application ... worth the money
This App has a lot of useful content and is easy to use. The bilirubin/phototherapy tool is well-designed but needs to add the ability to enter bilirubin in mg/dL for all of us docs in the USA. In its current form its unusable unless you do the conversion yourself. The newborn check video could be improved by replacing the live soundtrack with a narrated one: between the baby screaming and the doctors accent, it was hardfor me to follow. I would also like to see the inclusion of more images and the ability to pinch/zoom them to see them larger. Overall a great 1st edition and a valuable addition to my iPhone.
I really like this app because of it comprehensive coverage of the newborn. It contains many references and web links, both of which extend its usefulness. While the user interface is very good and easy to navigate. However, I would prefer a more aesthetic and creative user experience. But its really about the content, right. Great job, guys.

Some bad moments

I liked this app when I originally downloaded it 18 months ago. Unfortunately, when I updated to a new version, it would no longer work on my iTouch. I deleted and re-downloaded the app three times, but it still didnt work. I then emailed the developers to help me fix the problem. They never responded to my query.
